Reading Comprehension

Before a student can have good comprehension skills they must be able to decode and be fluent readers. These are the building block to comprehension. There are many areas of comprehension:

Main Idea, Identifying Details, Sequencing Events, Using Context, Getting Facts, Drawing Conclusions/Predicting Outcomes, Fact and Opinion, Cause and Effect, Figurative Language, Comparing and Contrasting, Identifying Inferences, Summarizing Concepts, Understanding Vocabulary, Visualizing Ideas, Determining Author’s Purpose, Understanding Point of View.

It is never too late to address reading problems; however, early intervention is best.  When a student’s reading issues can be identified down to these specific details, an effective program can be designed to improve these skills.  At The Study Hub we start with an assessment that pinpoints exactly where a reader is; therefore, we do not waste time covering skills the students do not need.  We use professional instructors who are trained in teaching reading concepts.
